And then there was one.

I know every baby is different, but when did your little one drop their morning nap? And how could you tell? My trusty Healthy Sleep Habits book says it's around 10-12 months (right on target, it seems).

James used to consistently take two 1.5 hour naps. Now his morning naps are gradually getting down to just a .5 hr - 1 hr. His afternoon naps are still 1.5 hours and sometimes longer...

He's definitely still getting sleepy in the mornings, but I'm just curious how it looked for you guys.

RM didn't drop until 18 months. but it was gradual from 12-18. He'd skip it on Sundays first, and then we picked up a second day mid week, and slowly we'd add an additional day without it. my best approach was to take an outing at the time of his usual morning nap to distract us both and power through. 3 hr afternoon naps were amazing! :)

Oh I very much disliked that phase. Charlie dropped his first nap around 11.5 months. At the time, it didn't dawn on me what he was doing. I thought he was just being naughty, throwing things out of his crib so I'd come in and play with him. Once I figured out(after about a week straight of this) this was not the case, we played most days by ear. Some days he still needed to nap in the morning, but most days he'd be fine until after lunch. What I did was keep him up through what was his morning nap, keep him very distracted, and then push the afternoon nap up to the time he was usually ending the morning one. That was around 11 am for us, I believe. It was definitely a trying time. Their little bodies are getting used to less sleep and it's hard on everyone. Hopefully James makes it pretty easy for you!

This phase was very interesting, but we got through it. Nathan started with one nap around 13-14 months. I pretty much followed HSHC--We tried (try) to make it as close to 1:00 as possible without him falling over in tiredness or crankiness. Nathan still gets really tired in the mornings, so we have started implementing "quiet time" where he plays in his pack and play for a while with quiet books and toys for some "down time". He eats lunch about 11:30 and is usually soooo tired that he falls asleep for his nap by 12:30. I know one day we will make it 1:00, but that is where we are right now. We are adjusting bedtime a little earlier and hoping that will improvie his overall tiredness/mood during the day.

Our older two were around 12-15 months old when the first nap was dropped. But you are right, every kid is different...

Every time I try to move to one nap with b, I realize how MUCH he loves that morning one. He rarely takes an afternoon nap. Which makes for a long afternoon for me. He still sleeps almost 3 hours every morning!

Our twins are almost 17 months and they're still taking two naps. I love the Healthy Sleep Habits book! Are you sure it says most drop the morning nap at 10-12 months? I really thought it said 12-15 months for that. In your case it does sound like he's getting ready to drop that morning nap. Hope the transition is smooth!
