The Jorts of Jim

I love my husband inexplicably.  He is my complement.  He is my giggles.  He is my crush and my ever-longing.  Many people meet him and very quickly realize that he could only have been created by a unique, powerful, and wonderful Maker.  He is my Jim.  

He also owns the most hideous pair of jorts on the planet.  

Having a fashion style of his very own, Jim cares very little about the latest trends and crazes.  His clothing choices are not usually battles that I choose.  However, the jorts strike a nerve that results in the deepest loathing and disdain that I have ever felt for anything... ever.  I wouldn't mind if he just wore them for work around the house, but they have been worn to various public functions.  I want to burn them, one thread at a time - which wouldn't take very long.

Keep the Home Fires Burning...

Rachel, one of my nearest and dearest friends, married a strapping young soldier last October. He was then quickly deployed to Iraq in November. Rachel has been so patient and trusting in her Father throughout the deployment (not without the expected tears and struggles, of course) and I'm so proud to be her friend.

I'm not sure how all of the military protocol works, but I do know that he is pretty high in rank and therefore had to wait a long time to take his leave. He finally heard that he will be coming home at the beginning of September! I can't imagine the relief and excitement of Rachel and his whole family. He'll be home for about a month, and then returns until February. Please pray that everything will run smoothly with his leave and that he and Rachel will get to really enjoy each other while he's home. Just a few more days!!

Thankful Thursday

I am so very grateful for:

1. A beautiful Mama and incomparable Daddy who are flying Jim and me down to West Palm for Christmas! Woopee!

2. A job that is challenging for my intellect, yet so flexible for my schedule :)

3. Our cozy house that we realized, post hurricane Fay, does not leak during heavy rain.

4. A husband who works extremely hard to take care of us, but is still there to be silly with me.

5. A loving God that gives such wonderful gifts, unsparingly.

Belief-o-Matic!

My gawgeous sister-in-law sent me a link to this quiz.  After it traveled around the Thompson household and yielded some pretty interesting results (Jim is apparently more Eastern Orthodox and Quaker than he is Protestant), I decided it was blog-worthy.  I was 100% Seventh Day Adventist... I always knew my Saturdays just felt empty.

Incredible Photos

This blog that I found is a little related to my blog post below.  Every day, there are spectacular photos of headline stories.  Beautiful, hilarious, heart-wrenching, other-worldly, and moving... depending on the headline.  They bring more to news without being TOO opportunistic or graphic (though I feel that there is sometimes a place for that in order to know truth).  Enjoy.

Right Here, Right Now.

    Jim and I are sitting in a coffee shop being "groovy".  He's reading Tim Keller's Reason for God and I am, of course, messing around on the Mac-ee-poo.  He's sipping wild sweet orange tea but I don't feel much like a beverage right now.  What I do feel like is an entry on the popular and hilarious blog, Stuff White People Like.  

    Sometimes I think about what life would be like if I were born in a totally different country with a totally different body makeup and a totally different set of values.  Why did God choose to allow me to be born in America, as a little white girl?  I especially thought about this as I watched the opening ceremony of the Olympics (how amazing??).  It's so easy to think that all that exists is my little spot of life.  That what's really important is what's happening, right here, right now.  The world is SO huge.  

    It makes me want to travel.  I really wish it didn't cost money.
